Why work services? Center-based work programs around the Nation are asked this question everyday by funding sources, legislators, advocacy groups and community members and there is never a standard answer because center-based work means something different to each person who uses it, which is why they should be the ones who get to answer this question. So in our quest to understand, we are going to the experts.
Over the past two years, Panhandle Special Needs, Inc. has been working with local videographers Mark and Becky Watson from Com Tech, Inc. to make a video series of the clients who work here in our center-based work program. These unique videos are told by the individual in their own words, from their perspective and straight from the heart. As you watch these, I hope you look closely and listen with your heart as well as your ears. You will not only hear, but see how these individuals feel about coming to their jobs in a center-based work environment, where they get rare opportunities to be leaders, on occasion experts and sometimes a king for the day!
