This unique program offers specialized training to adults with disabilities in the areas of budgeting, shopping, housekeeping, cooking and much more. Currently serving 50+ individuals, our program has helped hundreds of people with disabilities successfully increase their independence, live in their own apartments, maintain employment, actively engage in their communities and develop healthy long term relationships with others.
PSNI’s Life Skills Training program is committed to enhancing the quality of life of our clients by providing customized training that is focused on helping the individual achieve their highest level of independence. It is the primary goal of the life skills training staff to teach skills that fall into the following categories:
- Self-Care
hygiene & grooming, laundry - Independent Living Skills
menu planning, shopping, cooking, housekeeping - Budgeting/Money Management
- Time Management
- Communication Skills
- Social Skills
- Self-Direction
- Community Access & Safety
- *Other trainings provided based on individual need
Eligibility Requirements
Individuals must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a documented mental or physical disability
- Be generally able to care for his or her own personal needs
- Have a third party funding source or be self-paying
- Refrain from conduct that is dangerous to self or others
- Refrain from conduct that disrupts or startles others
- Other specific criteria may apply depending on the service desired
